On Saturday, August 16th, The Emerald Hound welcomes the Osland Dailey Duo—two powerhouse jazz musicians and educators from the University of Kentucky School of Music. Saxophonist Miles Osland and pianist Raleigh Dailey unite for an evening of world-class artistry, adventurous compositions, and a shared love for improvisation.

Fresh from an international stage, the duo recently represented the United States at the 19th World Saxophone Congress in the Canary Islands, premiering Dailey’s composition Triptych. This dynamic work blends intricate, composed passages with free-flowing improvisation, highlighting their seamless interplay between structure and spontaneity. The Congress—held every three years—draws elite musicians from around the world, making the premiere a true career milestone.

Miles Osland is an internationally celebrated saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator whose career spans more than 35 years. He has performed and conducted across North and South America, Europe, and Asia, working with leading music organizations like Selmer (Paris) Saxophones, Jody Jazz, and D’Addario. With 42 commercial recordings—nine submitted for Grammy consideration—Osland’s discography includes acclaimed albums such as Saxercise and My Old Kentucky Home. This fall, he’ll release Collaborations Volume 4: The Music of Raleigh Dailey, a tribute to the duo’s creative partnership.

Raleigh Dailey is a versatile jazz pianist, composer, and scholar whose performances span the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland to the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. A finalist at the prestigious International Martial Solal Jazz Piano Competition in Paris, Dailey has collaborated with the DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra and the Osland/Dailey Jazztet. His compositions—ranging from jazz to chamber works—have been performed by ensembles worldwide, and his recordings on Llama Records capture his innovative approach to the piano.

When Osland and Dailey perform together, the result is more than just music—it’s an exploration. Audiences can expect a masterful journey through swing, bebop, Latin influences, and modern jazz, all delivered with both technical brilliance and heartfelt expression.
